Our Advice

What do I do with MY land next?

Take Control of YOUR land

We here at GORSINATOR are not experts on horticulture so we defer to people who are. So we'll give you tips and advice based on expert advice from people in the know.

A long time business associate of GORSINATOR has the expertise that specialises in organic fertilisers and horticulture. As you've probably read on this website already you need to grow something on your land that you've taken control of again by getting rid of a gorse infestation.

Gorse is bad for soil. It's a nitrogen locker so it robs nitrogen from the soil and stores it in it's vegetation. Now that you've pulled it out and burnt it to get rid of it you need to grow something to help compete with the new gorse that will grow.

Gorse will sprout new plants of evil regardless of which method of gorse control you use. As previously stated by pulling it out you can now do something with your land instead of waiting several years for the root base to rot away after mulching, blading, slashing or the burning of gorse thickets.

We all own land to do something with apart from growing gorse. You might want to have a few horses, run a few sheep or cattle or rejuvenate what was a gorse wasteland into native flora which then brings native fauna instead of feral pests.

What to do?

Cultivate the soil. You know, with a tiller or plough. The nay sayers will say: this will just stimulate the gorse to grow again. Yes it will, but you can control this new growth by pulling it out or spot poison treatment. Grazon is the industry recommended herbicide.

Fertilise the soil. The experts at Soilcharge recommends BESRA which is 100% organic. Soilcharge also have other organic products to help you take control of your land back again so check them out at the Soilcharge website.

If you want to grow pasture for livestock sow a mixture of grasses containing at least 2 varieties of rye grass and 3 clovers. What you grow will depend on your locality so it's best to seek local advice from local experts.
